
While the outright racism isn't surprising (If this is based in the 80s, then I grew up in that decade) considering the recent wars.
I also wonder if his disdain is partially due to Maks' rather...homeless...appearance. If the poor guy is simply able to have a long, hot, shower and some clean clothes that actually fit.
If Maks is scrubbed clean with a good haircut and wearing a well-tailored suit, and he learns that cocky "I am what I am, so deal with it" attitude (walking into every room like you own the place), people may take him more seriously.
