This was misuploaded early on Monday but I decided I wanted it here instead on Wednesday to keep my schedule not borked. That way I can show off the new vote incentive too! Crow vs Aisel! Go vote and see some violence.

My birthday is tomorrow, yay!

Happy Birthday, Spelledeg!

Now that I've caught up (or caught up on re-reading, I guess), I just want to say how wonderful of a comic this is so far. There's so many great things about it, and I'll try to cover them all if I can.

Your art style is really great. Everything from the characters to the intricate backgrounds and scenery that you do all fits really well together. You're very great at expressing grand and even subtle emotions in your characters, which makes this a very enjoyable read for me, personally. One of my favorite things about comics is seeing the emotions of the characters expressed in interesting ways.

I love how you blend black and white contrast with occasional splashes of red. Brings a really unique feeling to stuff. Speaking of black and white, the textures you use really fit the grim and dark feeling of the world that Maks is living in. Some of these textures end up bleeding outside of the lines and even the panels, which really fits with the feelings of life being messy.

You're very good at telling the audience only what they need to know in particular moments. It's very obvious from the dialogue and such that there's a lot more going on behind the scenes, but since it doesn't need to come up it just doesn't. I try to do a similar thing with my own comic (which I hope I'm doing well enough) and it's really cool to see that done so wonderfully in another comic as well. I like how indirect some of the characters talk to each other (particularly Aisel and Tony) and how metaphorical things can be at times.

Speaking of Aisel, she's definitely my favorite character so far. No offense to Maks at all, because I love his design and what we know of his backstory, but most of what we've seen of him so far is poor and desperate (which makes sense). Aisel is such a fun character so far. I may be a little biased since I used her in the Villain Exchange, but she has a few different "modes" to her which are fun to see contrasted with each other. Sometimes she's serious, sometimes she's suave, a charmer, ruthless, etc. That paired with her superstitious attitude definitely makes for a great character. I can't wait to see what screwed up and awful things happen to her / because of her.

Now Hiring, in conclusion, is great. It feels like the story has only just started (and it kind of has) but it also feels like such a meaty beginning as well. I know you've been working on this for years now (you started back in 2017, I believe? Maybe even earlier?) Just want to say that your work has definitely paid off. This is a great comic and I think if you stick with it, it will turn out to be something really special. Keep up the great work, and I'll keep reading your great work!

I had to sit down for this. I've been just like staring at this comment for most of the day haha. Damn.

Thank you! I've had a blast reading your comments and insights. It's fantastic to know that a lot of what I'm setting up comes through. Toby, Aisel and Simeon...have a lot of history.

She's a blast to write, a super fun bastard for sure. I'm glad you enjoy her! She's all personality from the get go where because of the nature of this narrative, Maks comes into his own rather than starting there. :)

To conclusions: I started dev in this story around 2015-2016 when I was revamping some older OCs that didn't have a story home. While I started in late 2017 it was a very bumpy, spotty schedule.(and a lot of life changes popping up lol) I should have waited a bit, since at the time I was doing pages in full color. They packed a 15+ hour(per page) working time instead of 6-8 now. It just wasn't possible. I think the BW angle fits the narrative better, and I had to get less half-assed with my lineart as a result.

So with significantly more sense of structure and discipline, I'm back as of this year.

Props to some particular readers who came back after a 1.5 year hiatus. I'm floored they returned at all. I'm still regaining traction and reader trust again and I'm not surprised. :) It's warranted.

Thanks, dude!
